Interested in painting from an early age Winifred Nicholson painted prolifically throughout her life generally in a representational style, though she experimented with abstraction in the 1930s. Referring to her floral images she said 'my paint brush always gives a tremor of pleasure when I let it paint a flower'. Her work is held in Kettle's Yard and the Tate Gallery as well as in private collection.
