Sister of influential novelist Virginia Woolf, Vanessa Bell was an English painter and interior designer who studied at the Royal Academy in 1901 under the tutelage of artists such as John Singer Sargent and later moved to Bloomsbury before marrying noted art critic Clive Bell. It was here, in 1913, that Bell co-founded the 'Omega Workshops' with fellow artists and Bloomsbury Group members Duncan Grant and Roger Fry, before later moving to Charleston House in Sussex. Vanessa Bell was a pivotal player in Modernism and 20th Century British art, inventing a new language of visual expression
